Passive Collectibles, sometimes called passive items, are a type of item, specifically, a collectible, in which the player can receive an unlimited amount of. Unlike the Passive Collectible's counterpart, Active Collectibles, Passive Collectibles do not take up the player's spacebar slot. Also unlike Active Collectibles, they do not require charging from the completion of rooms. Types of Passive Collectibles range from stat ups, such as The Pentagram and Roid Range, and tear modifiers, such as Brimstone and Dr. Fetus, to bomb modifiers, such as Butt-Bombs and Bobby-Bomb, and Familiars, such as Cube of Meat and Dry Baby. When a Passive Collectible is picked up, the player will receive text in the form of a hint, either hinting to or outright listing the player the effects of the item. Some Passive Collectibles can react with other Passive Collectibles, Active Collectibles, or even both. This is called a synergy. For example: The player picks up Dr. Fetus, allowing them to shoot bombs instead of tears. They also find Bob's Curse, normally giving the player bombs with a poisonous effect. Some obvious effects of this synergy are the changing of the bomb's appearance and the chance for a bomb to apply a poison effect on an enemy. Some not-so-obvious effects of this synergy are that the player does not take damage from their own bombs and that the bombs now explode on contact with enemies, the player, walls, rocks, and other obstacles.
